Sunshine Technology brings together forestry expertise, host countries' forestry agencies and local labour to establish low-cost, high-value, responsibly-managed plantations that, wherever possible, are designed to qualify for carbon credits.

We establish forestry plantations only in non-industrialised countries because we believe better growing conditions and a lower cost base generate a higher return than forestry in industrialised countries, even after adjusting for the higher country and currency risks inherent in operations in the non-industrialised world.

Land rights acquisition is managed via a gate process, which aims to ensure that businesses are only developed in circumstances that can lead to sufficiently high returns. Typically this requires:

Physical and climatic conditions suited to the establishment of short-rotation, high-yield (SRHY) plantations;
Low land and plantation establishment costs;
Accessible and sufficiently developed market for end (processed) products;
Long-term upward pressure on product prices from target markets supply-demand dynamics; and
Positive results from economic and social impact assessments.

Our core business is to acquire rights to land that is not forested and then establish new plantations. Depending on circumstances, we may also acquire existing timber plantations. We do not intend to acquire native forest for the purposes of commercial exploitation.

Once land rights are secured, plantation operations begin with a focus on advanced technical quality, safety, social and environmental responsibility, and cost management. Throughout our land acquisition and plantation operations processes, we are always seeking to optimise the value of our crop through methods such as careful site-species matching, market-driven harvest scheduling, and targeting multiple and varied end products, including energy. We are also targeting Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification for all our plantations.
