Africa

Although South Africa has a highly developed forestry plantation and processing industry, few other African countries have significant production or capability. Native forest, however, continues to suffer from large-scale unsustainable harvesting across the continent.
Excellent growth conditions can be found in Africa, and although new plantation ventures often face infrastructure and logistics challenges, land and labour costs are typically lower than any other region with forestry potential. Provided that a strong local market or a viable route to overseas markets is available, plantation forestry in Africa can perform well.
In addition to the potential for attractive commercial returns, the introduction of a plantation forestry venture in Africa can have a profound impact on the economy and incomes in the local areas where extreme rural poverty is usually prevalent.
