Honghe

Sunshine Technology's operations in Honghe were its first in China. In 2005, an agreement was signed with the Honghe Forest Bureau (HFB) to develop Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)
forestry plantations in Honghe, Yunnan.
Initially, HFB was contracted to carry out plantation activities in 2006 and 2007 while local capability was developed. In 2008, Sunshine Technology's operations teams took responsibility for management and establishment of all Sunshine Technology plantations in China.
The 2006/07 forestry plantations were primarily aimed at researching the commercial viability of plantations on barren land suitable for earning carbon credits. A variety of largely indigenous species were planted including Nepalese alder, Chinese fir, and several species of pine, cypress and eucalyptus. Following the takeover of operations from HFB in 2008, we are now focused on short-rotation, high-yield (SRHY) plantations and evaluating the potential for establishing up to 26,600 ha of such plantations in Honghe.
