With funds and practical assistance from Carbon Positive, the developer of Sunshine Technology's Indonesian ventures, local villagers in Sumbawa have finished rebuilding their mosque, which was badly damaged in an earthquake last year.
Three people died and significant property damage resulted from the quake, centred off the coast of Sumbawa, during the early hours of November 26, 2007. The island is one of the locations in the West Nusa Tenggara province where Carbon Positive has been establishing
forestry ventures for Sunshine Technology.
Three days after the earthquake, Indonesia's Minister for Forestry M.S. Kaban, accompanied by Carbon Positive staff and local partners, visited the company's seedling nursery and the site identified for the first plantings in Sumbawa. The local villagers asked the Minister for assistance to repair the mosque and Carbon Positive agreed to help out. The rebuilding work was carried out between March and July 2008.
